New Year’s Day Mega Millions jackpot climbs to $425 million

A ticket sold in Long Island, New York, matched all the numbers to win the $425 million Mega Millions jackpot. It was purchased at a gas station on Long Island in NY. If the victor takes the lump sum payment, they would walk away with $254 million.

This past year also saw numerous other largest jackpots in Mega Millions history. Officials said it is the second time the jackpot has been won on New Year's Day. The winning numbers were 34, 44, 57, 62 and 70, with a gold ball numbered 14.

On Wednesday, the Powerball drawing will be at $53 million.

There have been 19 consecutive drawings since October 26, 2018, without a jackpot victor.

The jackpot has been rolling over since October, when one ticket worth more than $1.5 billion was sold in SC.

A winning Pennsylvania Lottery Mega Millions ticket worth $4 million was sold at an Erie County store for Tuesday's drawing.

Matching five numbers will draw a $1 million payday. The only other January 1 victor was in Texas in 2008. That person holds the lone winning ticket in last night's $425 million jackpot.
