Tokyo: Man deliberately drives van into NYE crowds

Eight people were injured in the incident. New year's eve is generally a muted affair in Tokyo.

In the early hours of the new year, a man crashed his vehicle into pedestrians in Shibuya Ward in Tokyo, injuring nine people in what he claimed to be a terrorist attack, local media reported Tuesday.

Police said the man in custody is being held for 'questioning on suspicion of attempted murder'.

The Japanese news outlet stated in its report that is unclear to which execution the suspect was referring.

Manchester itself was the scene of a suicide bomb attack in May 2017 that killed 22 people as they left an Ariana Grande concert.

CNN affiliate TV Asahi reported, citing police, that a large amount of kerosene was discovered in the suspect's vehicle. "If the incident had happened five minutes later, I would've been involved", a woman who walked past the scene shortly after the incident told NHK.

But on the other hand, there are clubs like "Phoenix" or "San Antonio", which only once in the "regular" played overtime. Bookmaker offices, as a rule, estimate the probability of a draw with coefficients from 10.00 to 15.00.

There is no information so far to suggest foreign tourists were among the injured, the police spokesman said.

Police said eight people were hurt by the vehicle when it auto drove into the crowd, including a young male who was taken to hospital in critical condition, according to Japanese news agency Kyodo.

Police said the man was in his 20s and had an "intent to murder". When apprehended by police, the man declared that he had carried out a terrorist attack.

Witness Sam Clack, 38, a BBC radio producer, said: "I just heard this most blood-curdling scream and looked down the platform".

The blast, which destroyed 35 units, killed at least seven people and left hundreds homeless in freezing temperatures.
