Deontay Wilder vs. Tyson Fury

Deontay Wilder vs. Tyson Fury

Wilder retained his WBC heavyweight title belt on Saturday after a thrilling 12-round battle ended in a split decision draw at the Staples Center. "We poured our hearts out tonight".

Wilder (40-0-1) floored Fury (27-0-1) in the ninth and final rounds, yet Fury clearly outboxed Wilder for large portions of their meeting at Staples Center.

"Tyson will fight in the United Kingdom again". While Fury came out with heightened public perception of his abilities and standing in the game, Wilder's stock drops with this draw.

However, Fury had to climb off the canvas for a second time in a dramatic finish to proceedings, showing tremendous powers of recovery when initially appearing to be out cold from a right-left combination.

"We're on away soil", he said.

"I would love it to be in London; if it's a good fight straight into a soccer stadium".

Going into the 12th round Fury looked to be on the way winning on points and knew to expect some big shots from Wilder.

Vorskla Poltava v Arsenal: Hosts throw doubt on Arsenal game going ahead
Overall, every player can go home happy, but there were two in particular that stood out... We spent a lot of our energy and we did everything we could to prepare for the match.

"We gave each other all we've got", Wilder said.

But Fury, in part with motivation from Wilder, eventually got his life under control and returned to the ring in June after a 31-month layoff and won two fights in a row before agreeing to face Wilder. That man is a fearsome puncher and I was able to avoid that.

Deontay Wilder, left, and Tyson Fury, of England, trade punches during a WBC heavyweight championship boxing match, Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018, in Los Angeles. Fury would try to steal rounds with late flurries and then raising his hands in triumph as the bell sounded. I just showed the world tonight, everyone suffering with mental health, that you can come back and it can be done. Wilder has emerged as a great heavyweight champion, and he continues to prove that.

With just two minutes left in the fight, Wilder buckled Fury's knees with a right hand and knocked him senseless with a ideal left on the way down.

The challenger was flat-out on the canvas but somehow found a way to not only recover to beat the count but also box the better of the two men down the stretch.

When asked if this was his preference, Fury was vague at post-fight press conference. It doesn't matter to me where we do it.

It wasn't until the ninth round that Wilder landed a heavy blow. Everyone from Chadwick Boseman, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Shaquille O'Neal to boxing stars Gennady Golovkin and Mikey Garcia gathered for the marquee heavyweight bout.
