75,000 homes evacuated as Southern California fire rages

A wildfire north of Los Angeles burned up to 15 square miles, destroying at least one home Thursday.

Approximately 13,000 people who live in Malibu are under a mandatory evacuation.

Pepperdine University shut down its Malibu and Calabasas campuses and initiated shelter-in-place protocols as the fire roared southward, sweeping into the Santa Monica mountains.

Three fires across northern and southern California have scorched thousands of acres fanned by strong Santa Ana winds.

Pet owners walked their dogs on Zuma Beach, the winds whipping up the sand around them and fire engine sirens blaring nearby.

It was 0 percent contained and the cause was under investigation.
