Mayweather announces New Year's Eve fight

Floyd Mayweather will make his MMA federation debut on New Year's Eve when he takes on unbeaten kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in Japan.

Breaking: Floyd Mayweather announced on Sunday night at a Tokyo press conference that he will participate in a fight in the Rizin Fighting Federation on December 31 in Japan.

The rules of Mayweather's surprise contest have not yet been confirmed but he hasn't ruled out the prospect of his fight allowing some elements of MMA. Earlier in the day, Mayweather posted a photo of himself on social media wearing Rizin MMA gloves. He's now 41 years old. In fact, he downplayed the financial aspect of the deal.

Japanese promoter the RIZIN Fighting Federation on Monday said rules and the weight class for the bout have not been set. "We'll get that situated within the next couple of weeks". "But we told the people anything is possible, so now we're here and we want to make sure that we give the people in Tokyo what they want to see: blood, sweat and tears". I can box a lot a bit, ' said Mayweather. Let's go over to Japan. "That's really want the people want to see".

"We still have some work to do", said Nobuyuki Sakakibara, the RIZIN chairman. Maybe he'll face Nasukawa in a straight boxing match; that would seem to be the most likely outcome.

The fight could be the first steps towards Mayweather's highly anticipated rematch with Conor McGregor in the UFC.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. (50-0, BX) has a legitimate case as the best boxer of all time, and he has the record to back it up. Pacquiao plans to defend his secondary welterweight title against Adrien Broner in January. He recently defeated former UFC fighter Kyoji Horiguchi in a kickboxing fight.

Mayweather had come out of a near two-year retirement to fight McGregor and afterwards said he was done with boxing.

Mayweather insisted Nasukawa would be no pushover.

More Crude Losses as Bulls Exit the Market
US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures were firmer, however, at $67.16 a barrel, up 12c from their last settlement. The U.S. dollar index .DXY also rose , supported by robust U.S. consumer spending data.

It may simply be that he is trying to maintain the crossover audience he created with McGregor and that the Rizin bout will simply be boxing in a cage, rather than a ring. "I'm so happy that Mr. Nasukawa accepted this offer in a flash". "I would probably say this is my biggest event in life so far and I'm very happy this is going to materialize".

And he faces a potentially unsafe prospect in heralded kickboxer Nasukawa, who warned he has a punch that will "change history".

"I don't care what the rules are".

"We've been making some huge fights happen in the U.S., but we look forward to taking the Mayweather Promotions banner and the TMT banner worldwide".

Mayweather was complimentary of Nasukawa.

"He's young and he's undefeated so it's obvious he's doing something right", he said.

"I want to continue to build my relationship with Money Team Tokyo". I'm not really anxious about the rules.

"I have fought in the United States for all 50 of my fights".

Ariel Helwani said tonight that the rules and weight still had to be worked out.
