Pentagon Says Border Troops Will Increase

The Pentagon will deploy 5,200 active-duty troops to the U.S. -Mexico border to help curb illegal immigration, officials said Monday following President Donald Trump's repeated warning that migrants in southern Mexico making their way toward the United States pose a national security threat.

O'Shaughnessy said just over 1,000 troops had already deployed to Texas as of Tuesday, where they will carry out tasks like building barriers, erecting tents, and flying government personnel by helicopter to and from different locations along the border.

Hundreds of Central Americans following in the footsteps of a thousands-strong migrant caravan making its way toward the USA border crossed a river from Guatemala into Mexico on Monday, defying a heavy Federal Police presence deployed to patrol that country's southern frontier.

Trump, who campaigned against illegal immigration to win the 2016 US presidential vote, has seized on this caravan in the run-up to the November 6 mid-term congressional elections, firing up support for his Republican Party.

"By the end of the week, we will deploy over 5,200 soldiers to the southwest border", Air Force General Terrence O'Shaughnessy, head of the U.S. military's Northern Command, told reporters.

Trump tweeted Monday about the caravan of several thousand Central American migrants moving through Mexico, saying no one will be admitted "unless you go through the legal process".

Mexico routinely complains about the treatment of its own citizens living in the USA without the proper papers, but has been detaining and deporting Central Americans in large numbers since 2014.

McAleenan said 1,900 asylum-seekers are picked up at USA border crossings a day, many of whom put themselves in the hands of violent human smugglers.

The new group, whose members called themselves a second caravan, gathered on the worldwide bridge leading from Tecun Uman to Mexico.

"We should not be militarizing the border, and President Trump has offered no clear idea of what our forces are going to do there", Smith said Thursday.

A new group of Central American migrants wade in mass across the Suchiate River, that connects Guatemala and Mexico, in Tecun Uman, Guatemala, Oct. 29, 2018. "This is an invasion of our Country and our Military is waiting for you!" he added.

Trump says: "We're going to build tent cities".

Kevin McAleenan, the USA commissioner of Customs and Border Protection, estimated on Monday that the caravan was comprised of about 3,500 migrants. One migrant died after being struck by a rubber bullet in that area, Guatemalan firefighters have said. They will not have arresting power and won't interact with migrants.

End game: open borders, the end of national sovereignty, and, as The New American has reported, integration of the United States into the North American superstate managed by Deep State globocrats. On Monday, more than 100 migrants lined up at a gas station parking lot to wait for rides.

The US President insisted the move would put off other asylum seekers. US officials have told Reuters the support mission would be coordinated by the USA military's Northern Command.
