Chelsea beat Derby in dramatic return for Lampard

Having memorably beaten Manchester United at Old Trafford, the Chelsea fans perhaps had the comfort of knowing their admittedly weakened side should still have too much for the Championship club.

The lead was short lived as Mount laid on Martyn Waghorn's leveller after 27 minutes before Fabregas' victor. The game nearly went to penalties, with Derby striker David Nugent hitting the post in the final minutes.

"Gary Cahill played for the first time in a while". But now they have gone out and they can concentrate on the Championship, which is what is so important now.

"It was against Chelsea, against [N'Golo] Kante, against [Cesc] Fabregas, against [Mateo] Kovacic, against world class players".

The decision to permit Derby to field the young loanees Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori had apparently not been made as a favour to this club's favourite son but was geared instead towards speeding the pair's development.

Derby boss Frank Lampard on Sky Sports: "I'm disappointed".

"To be fair, a lot is down to them because they really played well".

Substitute David Nugent struck the post in the 89th minute as Derby came close to a third equaliser, but Chelsea survived and progressed to a home quarter-final with Bournemouth.

So starting on Wednesday and winning five matches in a row with this caliber [of players] is very hard ", Federer said. Cilic, the fifth seed, secured his quarter-final ticket with a 7-6 (7/5), 6-4 defeat of Grigor Dimitrov .

Derby manager Lampard, who enjoyed 13 hugely successful years as a Chelsea player, watched his side put up a fearless fight against their Premier League opponents, twice levelling the match after calamitous own goals.

Fabregas got on the end of a cross from Davide Zappacosta, who had allegedly fouled Tom Lawrence in the build-up to it, to dispatch a fierce shot that hit Scott Carson on its way to the back of the net.

In fact, the duo of Gary Cahill and Andreas Christensen received negative reviews from both assistant manager Gianfranco Zola and the Chelsea supporters themselves. "I think we deserved a draw on chances created, for sure". It looks like they're in good hands. They may be out the Carabao cup but they went out swinging and fighting till the end.

Tottenham Hotspur's Spanish striker Fernando Llorente (centre) celebrates scoring his team's third goal against West Ham during the English League Cup football match.

"I've got nothing but great memories and to come back here and be treated like that, I'm a lucky man".

Key Stat: Chelsea (31) and Derby (30) have combined to score 61 goals in all competitions this season. The Premier League is a different level.

Stephan Lichtsteiner, with his first for the club, and 18-year-old midfielder Emile Smith Rowe scored Arsenal's goals at the Emirates before Matteo Guendouzi was sent off for a second yellow card in the 56th minute.
