Pittsburgh attack 'inhuman act of violence': pope

The United States, and the world, were scapegoating and murdering Jews long before Trump became president.

A woman bows her head in front of a memorial on October 28, 2018, at the Tree of Life synagogue after a shooting there left 11 people dead in the Squirrel Hill neighborhood of Pittsburgh on October 27.

Researchers found almost 30 percent of the accounts, which appeared to be automated bots, repeatedly tweeted derogatory words about Jews.

His online postings on Gab, a social network that bills itself as a champion of free speech, paint a picture of a white supremacist obsessed with far-right conspiracy theories about Jews, singling out a Jewish non-profit that provides aid to refugees as a target in a chilling message posted hours before his attack.

"You know, you're always anxious that something would happen", said Myron Snider, head of the cemetery committee for New Light.

Before the shooting, the poster believed to be Bowers also wrote that "HIAS likes to bring invaders in that kill our people. But they lit a fire under it" the religion professor told NPR on tonight's All Things Considered.

In the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, when science was the paradigm, Nazis attempted to prove through science that the Jews were a uniquely evil race.

Saudi and Turkish prosecutors meet over Khashoggi investigation
He was a critic of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the de facto Saudi ruler, who has purged rivals and consolidated power. Saudi authorities have arrested 18 men over the murder and Mr Erdogan has requested they be extradited for trial in Turkey.

The assault on the 150-year-old congregation was the deadliest anti-Semitic attack in recent USA history. "I just want to kill Jews.' Bowers repeated comments regarding genocide, his desire to kill Jewish people, and that Jewish people needed to die".

The toll also included professors, dentists and physicians.

After hearing news of the Pittsburgh shooting, US President Donald Trump speculated that the death toll would have been smaller if an armed guard had been in the building.

Cecil, 59, and David, 54, were proud congregants at the Tree of Life Synagogue, attending services every Saturday without fail. "They were gathering for Saturday Shabbat morning worship", Rabbi Koren said. Some attendees blamed the shooting on the nation's political climate, and said they took little solace in the planned visit by Trump. "It's really sad that you can't go to a house of worship without thinking you're taking your life in your hands". The killer, Robert Bowers, made clear on social media his belief that Jews are in control of the United States and are intent on destroying it by importing millions of Muslim immigrants.

McAleer says when he worked as a recruiter for hate groups, he ran a computer operated voice mail system that he notes, "was primarily anti-Semitic". Similarly in France, where anti-Semitic violence increased by 25% previous year, police and military patrols are deployed to help protect synagogues.

"It was a very diverse community", Abravanel said. "We work tirelessly to balance that desire to be available and open with the security needs of our community". Updating? How about a wake-up call for all universities to stop coddling anti-Semites on their campuses?

Marks said the information came from the ADL's audit past year. "Thirty percent of the Twitter feed, according to a recent study between August and September was outright anti-Semitic", Rabbi Koren said. We stand against any politicians' words that demean and diminish the humanity of whomever they deem "the other", because in so doing they legitimize more violence.
