Two More Suspicious Packages Sent To Robert De Niro And Joe Biden

California lawmaker Maxine Waters was sent two suspicious packages.

On Thursday evening, NY police sent the bomb squad to investigate two unattended packages at the Time Warner Center, where CNN's NY bureau was evacuated a day earlier after a pipe bomb was found in the mail room.

And a spokesperson for the New York City Police Department confirms to NPR that another suspicious package was sent to the actor Robert De Niro, who is a prominent critic of President Trump.

The developments, which unfolded rapidly and continued steadily into the afternoon, touched off fear and confusion and immediately invited questions about the motives of those responsible.

A bomb addressed to former Central Intelligence Agency director John Brennan was sent to the headquarters of CNN, a media outlet that has been critical of the president.

The Secret Service on Wednesday intercepted another package addressed to former president Barack Obama's Washington home. Later in the day, the Federal Bureau of Investigation specified that the explosive devices appeared to be pipe bombs.

CNN reported that the package sent to its headquarters came via courier, and some reports said the parcel found in Soros' mailbox upstate was hand-delivered. At least one of the devices appeared to contain projectiles, including shards of glass.

"There would need to be a second set of batteries or another power source within that device to function the switch causing the device to explode", May said.

Police briefly evacuated the Time Warner Center in NY for a second time in two days as a precaution after finding two unattended packages at a mall located in the building.

The powder was tested and determined to have been harmless, according to a law enforcement official.

Over the past 48 hours, authorities have reported finding explosive devices at the homes of left-wing activist and businessman George Soros, as well as former President Barack Obama and the NY home of former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

The FBI said the packages found so far had shared characteristics, including manila envelopes with bubble-wrapped interiors. Officials said they do not think she had anything to do with the packages and consider her a likely target.

None of the eight packages detonated, and nobody was hurt.

News of the arrest emerged as investigators recovered the latest explosive devices, packages sent to Sen.

The return address bore the name of Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a Florida congresswoman who formerly headed the Democratic National Committee.

"As it happens, Poppy and I were on the air reporting about a series of other explosive devices received at the residences of the Clintons and Obama". But he said they did contain potentially explosive material, adding: "These are not hoax devices".

As for the other suspicious packages, nobody was harmed and the explosives never arrived at the Obamas and Clintons' homes; the packages were intercepted before they got there.

"It is a troubling time, isn't it?" "In these times we have to unify".

CNN President Jeff Zucker emailed NY employees warning the company "out of an abundance of caution" after a suspicious package had reached the mail room.

The package addressed to Barack Obama was intercepted by Secret Service personnel in Washington DC early on Wednesday.

The explosive package sent to Mrs Clinton's NY home was discovered at a mail sorting facility, and did not reach the Clintons' home.

Wasserman Schultz resigned following a five-year stint as Democratic Party chairwoman following a leak of emails in 2016 suggesting an insider attempt to hobble the campaign of Clinton's rival in the White House primaries, Bernie Sanders.

Earlier in the day, press secretary Sarah Sanders and Vice-President Mike Pence both tweeted written statements condemning the attacks, but Trump was strangely silent, offering only a retweet of Pence with the exclamation, "I agree completely!" De Niro, the founder of the Tribeca Film Festival, is a vocal critic of President Donald Trump. Responding to a tweet from Vice President Mike Pence, who said the administration condemned the "despicable" actions, Trump said, "I agree wholeheartedly!"

A senior law enforcement official in NY, describing the device sent to CNN, said the device intercepted in CNN's basement mailroom resembled the others: "Same package".

The series of bomb alerts began on Monday, when explosive devices were sent to locations in NY, the Washington DC area and Florida. Officials say investigators are analyzing the materials from that device to try to help in understanding it. "NYPD is now deploying resources around the city".
