Canelo Álvarez signs $365 million contract with streaming service DAZN

World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman is overjoyed by the news that Saul "Canelo" Alvarez signed a five year, 11 fight deal with streaming service DAZN. It aims to fill a hole left by HBO after it announced last month that after 45 years it would bowing out of boxing.

Alvarez's fights have always been shown on HBO thanks to the premium cable network's agreement with Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions.

Alvarez is now the unified middleweight champion of boxing, coming off a majority decision win over Gennady Golovkin last month.

Floyd Mayweather has taken aim at Oscar De La Hoya and his Golden Boy Promotions client Canelo Alvarez in a ruthless attack on social media on Thursday night.

Skipper promised fight fans will be able to buy fights "for a lot less expensive than they did before".

Alvarez will move up in weight to challenge WBA super middleweight champion Rocky Fielding on December 15 at Madison Square Garden.

It will offer fans a monthly subscription service to watch the fights rather than having to pay hefty pay-per-view fees. That fight was shown on HBO pay-per-view.

"I went to Germany and fought for the world title", said Rocky. "It's very important. We have something pending there, so let's make the second fight". "I know Canelo is an elite fighter, but I'm going in there as a champion to defend my title and walk away with the victory".

"I always want to take on challenges, and I am very happy my fans will be able to see me fight for a small cost".

Canelo, who recently beat the previously undefeated Gennady Golovkin in a highly anticipated rematch to become the unified WBA and WBC middleweight champion, is widely considered to be one of boxing's biggest stars, and joins a line-up on DAZN which includes world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua. Joshua fought on the platform's debut card following its USA launch when he defended his trio of world titles by stopping Alexander Povetkin in London on September 22. DAZN, which also signed a multi-year deal with Bellator MMA, had previously launched in Japan, Canada and parts of Europe. In Fielding's only high-profile bout to date he was knocked out in the first round by Callum Smith in 2015.
