Global media advocacy group Reporters Without Borders on Wednesday called for an independent worldwide investigation into the fate of Jamal Khashoggi - the Saudi journalist who has been missing since October 2 - saying his disappearance has come amid "a particularly harsh and opaque crackdown on Saudi journalists and bloggers".

Trump said Wednesday he found King Salman to be a "good man" with whom he speaks often, but acknowledged the Khashoggi case could prove to be an irritant. The suggestion that this journalist, Mr. Khashoggi, was you know, was murdered should be deeply troubling to everyone that cares as a free and open press around the world.

Saudi officials deny the allegation, claiming he left the premises - although they have yet to provide proof. "And we're going to get to the bottom of it", Trump said.

Some demonstrators held pictures of Khashoggi, while others carried placards with the phrase, "What happened to Jamal Khashoggi?"

Economist and citizen-journalist Essam al-Zamel was also put on trial this month for criticising the Saudi government's economic strategy in a series of tweets and reports.

Turkish officials believed that 59-year-old Khashoggi, also a Washington Post contributor, was murdered inside the consulate.

A former Saudi government advisor, Khashoggi has been openly critical of Prince Mohammed, accusing him of introducing a new era of "fear, intimidation, arrests and public shaming".

The fiancée of missing Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi has publicly pleaded for help from the US president and first lady to clear up the circumstances of his disappearance. The Post's source added it was unclear how the Saudi's planned on handling Khashoggi after receiving him or if the USA warned him that he was targeted.

The Duke of York has shared a series of family photos on his official Twitter account, as the royal wedding approaches. Joining Princess Charlotte as bridesmaid will be popstar Robbie Williams' six-year-old daughter, Theodora Williams.

Iran has warned that if it can not sell its oil due to United States pressure, then no other regional country will be allowed to do so either, threatening to block the Strait of Hormuz. It was not clear, the report said, whether the Saudis meant to arrest and interrogate Mr. Khashoggi or to kill him, or if the USA officials warned Mr. Khashoggi that he was a target.

About two and a half hours later, several men are seen leaving a hotel with their carry-on bags.

Republican Sen. Bob Corker of Tennessee.

In an email shared with reporters and described as a "personal message", Prince Khalid bin Salman, the Saudi ambassador to the United States, called Khashoggi a friend. "I've never heard of an embassy in my life that doesn't tape".

"To me ... it feels very much some nefarious activity has occurred by them".

"White House National Security Advisor, Ambassador John Bolton, and White House Senior Advisor, Jared Kushner, spoke to Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman yesterday about the missing Washington Post journalist", she said on October 10.

Trump on Monday expressed concern about Khashoggi's case and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo called for a thorough investigation.

On Tuesday, the New York Times cited top Turkish security officials who insisted that Khashoggi had been killed, dismembered with a bone saw, and then carted out of the building.

Writing in the American Conservative on October 9, right-wing journalist Daniel Larison was equally critical-saying, "The messages coming from the Trump Administration are scarcely better than boilerplate statements, and it shows that the administration has no interest in criticizing the Saudi government or in holding them accountable for their crime".
