But it also means that the company has updated the set of files that the update tool can grab from their servers. Larger Windows updates seem to have settled into a bi-annual rhythm.

About a year ago, Microsoft committed to biannual major releases of Windows 10, alongside its steady supply of security updates.

Microsoft has said that it'll start the automatic update process on October 9.

If you opt to wait for the update to hit your PC, Microsoft will download the update to your device and notify you it's ready to be installed.

Barely a day into release and Microsoft has admitted there is a problem with its shiny new OS and chips from Intel. As always, back up any important data you have prior to this update.

Microsoft has started to roll out its Windows 10 October 2018 Update

Starting with the October 2018 Update, you no longer have to click the section title to access additional settings. This was made possible with hard work here at Microsoft and the great partnerships that we have with the industry.

In this release, Microsoft made Settings easier to navigate, putting commonly used actions front and center, and providing more ways to customize the browser toolbar. And - finally - you can customise the Edge toolbar! Just select the "Favorites" () icon by the address bar and choose Reading List, Books, History, or Downloads to see what's new.

There are also new reading tools such as Line Focus to help you read on the web plus an offline dictionary. You can snip a rectangle, a freeform shape, or the entire screen.

Search previews now also include apps, documents, people, and more, allowing users to quickly access information to recent files and web results.

Windows 10 October Update now comes with 157 new emoji thanks to Unicode 11.

SwiftKey will now power the typing experience on Windows' touch keyboard in English (United States), English (United Kingdom), French (France), German (Germany), Italian (Italy), Spanish (Spain), Portuguese (Brazil), or Russian. Microsoft has also added over 30 new animated 3D models to Word and PowerPoint for all to use. You can now sketch slides in PowerPoint and they can be translated into slide designs automatically.

Just a little quality of life thing to make the experience marginally better. If you want to snap a screenshot, all you have to do is press the Windows key + Shift + S, and a snipping toolbar will appear. This is useful if you take a lot of screenshots!
