Cubs eliminated from playoffs with loss to Rockies

Lester knows what he's talking about, though: Tuesday marked the 26th postseason outing of his 13-year career (22nd start), which is more than the entire Rockies roster combined.

One day after letting their division titles slip away, the Chicago Cubs and Colorado Rockies find themselves facing elimination.

After Albert Almora Jr. struck out swinging for the final out, Wolters ran out and grabbed Oberg.

"We have had a lot of things go awry this year and in spite that have still tied for the most wins in the National League in a 162-game season", manager Joe Maddon said.

There is no rest for the tired as the Chicago Cubs host the Colorado Rockies in the 2018 National League Wild Card Game at Wrigley Field on Tuesday night. Without Terrance Gore, the Cubs might have been able to make it into the 14th inning.

Valencia look to extend Manchester United's poor run
Valencia forward Rodrigo says the Spanish side are targeting three Champions League points from their trip to Manchester United . They do it, they don't do it that's a different story, but I repeat I am naive or I still believe the player is an honest man.

The Rockies only scored two runs ... but it was enough it reinforced what got the Rockies to this point. He has hit.063/.211/.063 but has stolen 27 bases in 31 attempts. And before it even came to that, they couldn't lock up the NL Central when they led by as many as five games in September.

Once the last out was recorded and the Rockies' tickets to Milwaukee stamped (they'll take on the quietly powerful Brewers beginning Thursday, October 4), the Cubs faithful went straight to their phones and began tapping out messages of pain and remorse. With a 3-2 count, the bat should never leave Gore's shoulders.

Seven innings earlier, the Rockies needed just 13 pitches to score their only run of regulation play. The free-swinging slugger drove it into the gap in left-center for a tying double, easily scoring Gore from second and sending a charge through the crowd.

The Cubs' early exit clearly was a disappointment for everybody within the organization as well as the fanbase and changes will likely come this winter.

There was an MVP chant for Charlie Blackmon. In what should be of no surprise to Cubs fans, Davis showed little emotion as he left the mound.
