Trump, apparently mishearing "thank you" as "thinking", responded with a seemingly unprovoked jab: "I know you're not thinking".

Vega asked him to clarify his feelings about the limits of the FBI investigation into Kavanaugh. "That's not nice. Do you have a question on trade?" Vega pivoted to ask him about the prospects for trade legislation before Congress.

Vega then attempted to ask Trump about the FBI investigation into sexual misconduct allegations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. "You never do", the president muttered. "I don't mind answering the question but, you know, I'd like to to do the trade questions".

"You've been asking a question for 10 minutes".

After several questions on the issue, Collins tried again.

These might be recent instances of Trump's acrimonious relationship with women he can't control, but even before becoming president, he had been disrespectful of women.

"Can you imagine if I had, what a mess I'd be?"

He tweeted his Democratic presidential rival, Hillary Clinton, couldn't "satisfy her own husband".

He quickly interrupted her and said "Don't do that".
