Ahead of Kavanaugh Hearing, Ginsburg Praises ‘Women Coming Together'

A note to Christine Blasey Ford is seen on stationary in the Senate Judiciary Committee's room on Capitol Hill Sept. 26, in Washington, DC, during preparations one day before the hearing with Blasey Ford and Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh. After she escaped their clutches, she said, she heard them "laughing and loudly walk down the narrow stairs, pin-balling off the walls on the way down". "I can't tell you".

"It was hard for me to breathe, and I thought that Brett was accidentally going to kill me", she said. She planned to continue following the hearing because she wanted to hear what Kavanaugh, who has denied the allegations, had to say.

In testimony prepared for Thursday's Senate hearing, Kavanaugh acknowledges drinking in high school with his friends, but says he's never done anything "remotely resembling" the sexual misconduct alleged by his chief accuser.

Trump defended Kavanaugh, now a federal appeals court judge, at a NY news conference, but the president's comments injected another note of uncertainty into Kavanaugh's already troubled bid for a lifetime appointment to the nation's highest court. Well, don't you remember when all those women made told similar lies against Donald Trump? You know why? Because I've had a lot of charges made against me. "People want fame, they want money, they want whatever". Feinstein criticized Republicans who have rejected Democratic demands to slow Kavanaugh's confirmation process and let the FBI investigate all the allegations, saying, "What I don't understand is the rush to judgment".

"It's a big, fat con job", he said.

On his message for young men, Mr Trump said: "It's a very unsafe period in our country, and it's being perpetrated by some very evil people".

"Just based on what I -", the transcript showed the investigator responding.

But some Tory moderates had hoped that, faced with the prospect of no deal, some Labour MPs would vote with the Government. But he told BBC Radio 4's Today: "If we are going to respect the referendum it will be about the deal".

Kavanaugh denied the allegation as details of the allegation were read out, it added. As a measure of fairness, the members of the Judiciary Committee must weigh the credibility of Ford's claims against the credibility of Kavanaugh's denials.

Kavanaugh has been accused of various degrees of sexual assault and misconduct decades ago by three separate women.

She says she was the victim of a gang rape in 1982 at a party attended by the judge.

Kavanaugh replied that he doesn't even know Swetnick and that her accusations are "from the Twilight Zone". "I am terrified", she adds. She admits she was drunk.

On the eve of her testimony, an examination taken by Ford on August 7 was released, showing that she passed a polygraph test over the sexual assault allegations.

"Brett groped me and tried to take off my clothes", she said. She alleged that Kavanaugh and Judge locked her in a bedroom and that Kavanaugh forced himself on top of her.

The report said the caller, whose name was blacked out, contacted Whitehouse's office the morning of September 24, 2018, after he saw Kavanaugh's high school yearbook photo on television and realized one of those men was Kavanaugh.
