Jose Mourinho tells Paul Pogba: 'You will never be captain again'

Such inflammatory comments were never likely to go unpunished, with Mourinho reportedly gathering his players at United's Carrington training ground on Tuesday to reprimand Pogba and underline his authority.

Mourinho's message to the United squad, delivered at Carrington today, was created to underline his authority and remind the players that he is in charge.

The relationship between the pair has been shaky at the best of times, but recent comments from Pogba that called for United to play more attacking football appear to have angered the manager.

Manchester United have been knocked out in the League Cup third round by Championship side Derby on penalties, following a 2-2 draw at Old Trafford.

Pogba suggested earlier in the season he could not speak his mind without risking being fined by the club, while Mourinho has denied a rift with his star player.

Pogba has been left out of tonight's squad to face Derby.

Phil Jones missed the crucial penalty in the shootout with the score at 8-7 and Mourinho admitted he was not confident of winning the tie once the centre-back stepped up.

Saudi Arabia rejects Trump request to hike oil output
The price rises have stemmed mainly from a decline in oil exports from OPEC member Iran due to sanctions introduced by Mr Trump. That suggests OPEC's power to influence the market will be tempered by US production for about another decade.

"I knew that we were going to be in trouble, with Jones with Eric [Bailly] I knew that we were going to be in trouble then", he said.

"I don't criticise the team, but the truth is the opponents start the second half better than us".

"We should just attack and press, like we did against Tottenham, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal last season".

"I can't tell you because I'm a player", he said.

But things didn't go to plan as the Red Devils were dumped out of the competition 2-1 after Sergio Romero was sent off. "When we play like this, it's easier for us".

"I am trying to build a group to be successful and nights like this are incredible".
