OnePlus 6T to come with in-display fingerprint reader, confirmed

OnePlus 6T users willwill the options to choose which way they want to unlock their phone in a way which is most efficient for them, or use both. Featuring a fingerprint sensor on the front allows smartphone users to follow lesser steps to unlock the screen, compared to devices with fingerprint sensor on the back. The company also had to tweak the internals to accommodate the finger-on-display technology, making the OnePlus 6T design slightly thicker than the OnePlus 6, according to a news report in the CNET. Apart from improvements in camera and software under the hood, OnePlus 6T is expected to come with better battery life as well.

OnePlus" tweet, which gives a teaser video of this feature, was posted with the statement "Incoming: "Top Secret Message". Today OnePlus have confirmed to CNET that it will indeed have the in-display fingerprint sensor.

The sister company of OnePlus, Vivo was the first smartphone brand to launch a commercially viable in-display fingerprint sensor in a smartphone. The phone is expected to feature glass-metal-glass design. But whatever: To the user, they will be pressing their finger on the display to unlock the phone.

Vivo first introduced the in-display fingerprint technology at the CES 2018 (Consumer Electronics Show). Fingerprint on display, as some of you likely already know, ditches the dedicated fingerprint scanner and instead embeds that functionality in the display itself. The OnePlus 6T will have an OLED panel and no physical fingerprint sensor.
