Ryder Cup: Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Bryson DeChambeau in as captain’s picks

Woods has played on only one victorious Ryder Cup team (1999) in seven appearances, an astonishing number for one of the game's all-time greats. We've got an unbelievable veteran leader in Phil who's been around the Ryder Cup since before some of these guys were born.

There were no surprises when Furyk revealed his three captain's picks in Philadelphia, with in-form 24-year-old Bryson DeChambeau, victor of the past two events on the PGA Tour, chosen along with the seasoned Woods and Mickelson.

Furyk was delighted to welcome the 14-time major victor on board in a playing capacity, with David Duval, Zach Johnson and Matt Kuchar confirmed as vice-captains. DeChambeau was ninth on the Ryder Cup points list after the PGA, and the top eight automatically make the team. He won the next FedEx Cup playoff event by two shots.

The 24-year-old physics major known as the "Mad Scientist" won his second straight event in the FedEx Cup playoffs on Monday, shooting a 4-under-par 67 at TPC Boston to win the Dell Technologies Championship by two strokes over Justin Rose.

"It's great being No. 1 in the FedExCup Play-Offs and it's is something that I've dreamed of, especially going into East Lake, that's a gigantic advantage and something that's quite a tremendous honour, as well", he said. "This year to have the honour of being able to play again is beyond special".

"I wanted to get a good feel of what the atmosphere was like", he said about the reason he went.

A completely stacked American team is brimming with world class golfers, and Team Europe will have a job on their hands in France to win the famous trophy back.

The US will defend the Cup at the September 28-30 event against Europe at Le National in Paris.

"The only thing that I will try to do with some guys that haven't been on the team is just let them know what to expect so that the pressure doesn't mount".

We're all excited to see him healthy again.

"It's incredible, it really is, to look back at the start of the year and now to have accomplished a goal like that", Woods said. "I set out this year on really a strong commitment and journey to get on the team".

"I haven't been part of the team playing-wise for six years", Woods said.
