From 1978 to 1982, Reynolds was Hollywood's top-grossing star, and films like Smokey and the Bandit and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas made him a favorite among fans looking for some carefree entertainment. The movie's infamous rape scene may have helped the public - especially men - better understand the horrors of sexual attacks, Reynolds said.

Reynolds reportedly turned down the roles of Han Solo in Star Wars and John McClane in Die Hard, later saying he was more interesting in enjoying himself than pushing himself as an actor. According to T.S. and Brodie, Alyssa looked just like Burt Reynolds "except for the mustache".

Reynolds was also known for roles in popular films like "The Longest Yard" and "Deliverance". According to the report, Reynolds died on Thursday morning at Jupiter Medical in Flordia, per his manager Erik Krtizer.

One of America's most prominent sex symbols, he was known for posing nude in Cosmopolitan magazine in 1972. He received an Oscar nomination when he played the role of porn director Jack Horner in Paul Thomas Anderson's Boogie Nights in 1997, The Hollywood Reporter writes, and was the No. 1 box-office attraction for a five year stretch in the late 1970s. Though the actor lost the Oscar that year to Robin Williams, he did win a Golden Globe for the role.

Two of Reynold's own "Bandit" Pontiac Trans-Ams have crossed the auction block over the years.

Paul Ryan on Trump tweets: 'Justice should be blind'
Senator Dick Durbin of IL , the second-ranking Democrat in the Senate, called Trump's actions "unprecedented in American history". Justice should be blind", Ryan said when asked about the president's comments during a news conference at the Capitol.

He starred in films such as Deliverance and Boogie Nights.

The actor had struggled with health issues in recent years and underwent major heart surgery in February 2010.

Turning his attention to acting, he made the move to NY, struggling to find work for several years until landing a role on stage alongside Charlton Heston in Mr. Roberts in 1956.

His love life also drew headlines after a high-profile divorce to actress Loni Anderson preceded Reynolds bankruptcy filing in 1996, amid a budding romance with actor Sally Field.
