‘Big City’ Matt Adams returns to the Cardinals

Accepting that the turnaround they kept waiting for isn't going to happen, the back-to-back NL East champs began their fire sale Tuesday by trading away Daniel Murphy and Matt Adams. A year ago he hits.318 with a homer and two RBI in five NLDS games against Chicago with Washington, but it's 2015 that Murphy did the most damage.

The St. Louis Cardinals have made a deal with the Washington Nationals to bring first baseman Matt Adams back to St. Louis. Adams, 29, is hitting.257 with 18 homers, 48 RBI and a.510 slugging percentage.

The Nationals will receive no player from the Cardinals in exchange for Adams, reports MLB.com's Mark Feinsand. He played with the Cardinals from 2012-17. He went on the disabled list July 31 for a right shoulder strain and missed 19 games.

The company is also experimenting with other non-bottled drinks, including Drinkfinity , which is sold in pods. Pepsi said its strong global distribution capabilities would position SodaStream for further expansion.

The Cubs will employ Kyle Schwarber as their designated hitter Tuesday night when they face the Tigers in an interleague game.

Dexter Fowler was also moved from the 60-day DL to the 10-day DL.

Wisdom, 26, was purchased from Memphis on August 11 and played in nine games for the Cardinals batting.333 (4-12) with a home run and three RBI. Adams is in transit, though it is unclear when he will join the club.
