Israel's killing of a Gaza teen focus of dailies — Newspaper Review

The Israeli Ministry of Defense revealed on Sunday photos of an under-construction sea barrier on the maritime border with the besieged Gaza Strip to prevent the movement of the Hamas military wing out of the coastal enclave and into Israel. Yaghi and Suri were buried on Saturday.

At least 159 Palestinians have been killed in border demonstrations that began at the end of March, while one Israeli soldier has been shot dead.

Palestinians in Gaza have been flying balloons and kites carrying incendiary devices across the border into Israel, starting hundreds of fires.

The Palestinian Health Ministry has yet to issue a statement about casualties.

The Egyptian official said Cairo would not let its facilities or territory in the Sinai desert, bordering Gaza, be used to relieve Israel of keeping the Palestinian economy alive.

In an interview with Ynet, Elkin added that "Hamas wants to go back in time, three months back, to a reality of calm and quiet in the Gaza Strip, we are willing to do that".

But some Egyptian officials say they would resist any attempt by Israel, or its USA ally, to shift to Cairo the onus for addressing Gaza's long-term governance or economic problems.

The newspapers said that Israeli navy Saturday seized a Gaza-bound aid ship while in worldwide sea water and steered it to the Israeli seaport of Asdod. The more than 2 million Palestinians living in the Gaza Strip have suffered from a 10-year Israeli-imposed land, air, and sea blockade, which has plunged the small territory into poverty and some of the highest unemployment rates in the world.

Similar attempts by activists to challenge the Israeli naval blockade of Gaza have been blocked before.

The most serious such incident was in 2010, when Israeli commandos raided a Turkish ship, the Mavi Marmara, that was leading a flotilla to Gaza.
