Newcastle United turned down with loan offer for Federico Fernandez

Newcastle United turned down with loan offer for Federico Fernandez

He was a key figure as Slavisa Jokanovic's side secured a return to the Premier League for the first time since the 2013-14 season.

"Yes. We did this business with Muto because we needed to do something more".

According to ChronicleLive, Newcastle had attempted to bring the centre-back in on a loan deal but have been told the only way they to secure his services will be a permanent deal worth £10 million.

In a statement, Mainz said: "We have had had good and productive talks with Newcastle, and come to an agreement in principal".

The 26-year-old, who played for Japan at this summer's World Cup, scored a personal-high eight goals in 27 matches in his third season with the German club.

On his Team Sky team-mates, Thomas added: "We stuck together through some tough times and really stayed strong". Frenchman Pierre Latour will finish 13th overall and will clinch the white jersey for the best Under-25 rider.

The Magpies have agreed a deal to sign Japanese striker Yoshinori Muto from Mainz for a fee of £9.5m, subject to a work permit.

Lee Ryder of The Chronicle reports that the Magpies are looking to close out a deal for the striker soon.

"The popular striker has signed a five-year deal, keeping him at Craven Cottage until at least the summer of 2023, and will wear the number nine shirt".

Speculation linking Newcastle with Rondon has been present for some time and it is interesting to see that it looks like both the Venezuela worldwide and Yoshinori Muto will be brought into the club, which may suggest a tactical shake-up.

"The 23-year-old striker proved to be the flawless fit for Fulham, scoring 12 times in just 17 starts to help the team reach Wembley".
