Jose Mourinho concedes Man Utd may not sign transfer targets

Jose Mourinho concedes Man Utd may not sign transfer targets

Mourinho, 55, led the 13-time Premier League winners to a second-place finish last campaign, but ultimately fell considerably short of City who raced to the title with a record 100 points.

One positive for Mourinho in the draw against MLS side San Jose was the encouraging display of January signing Alexis Sanchez, who arrived on tour late after Visa issues.

The Portuguese tactician will be looking to put up a more threatening challenge on the title this season, though the club have only recruited one major signing in Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk this summer. "We don't have a team to play much better than we did but it's one more training session".

However, ESPN also claimed that Mourinho would be happy to let Martial go, though he may have to persuade United's Executive Vice-Chairman, Ed Woodward, who is supposedly leaning towards keeping the France global.

The Chile global is eager to hit the ground running after struggling to make an impact since his transfer from Arsenal in January. "He needed this and he made a good effort, a good physical effort, which is important for him in this moment".

The aforementioned trio of Rojo, Smalling and Bailly are the ones up for the chop, and all three have failed to nail down a guaranteed spot over the last couple of years, but Mourinho feels that bringing in Maguire will aid United's chances of reeling in reigning Premier League champions Manchester City ahead of the new season.

United play AC Milan, Liverpool and Real Madrid in the United States this month before travelling to Germany to take on Bayern Munich in their final pre-season clash on 5 August.
