The streaming service led the nominations in totals by platform with 112.

HBO still boasts the year's most-nominated series, "Game of Thrones" (22 nods) and "Westworld" (20), while Netflix fielded "The Crown" (13 nods) and "Stranger Things (12). This is the most diverse class of performer nominees we've had - we're nearly up to a third, which is fantastic", Maury McIntyre, TV academy president.

The short-lived revival of Roseanne, cancelled because of star Roseanne Barr's racist tweet, drew only one major nomination, a supporting actress nod for Laurie Metcalf. NBC topped the broadcast tally with 78 nominations, fueled by 21 bids for "Saturday Night Live", still on a satiric tear against the Trump administration.

Some long-time favorites disappeared almost completely from the Emmy voters' radars - remember when "Modern Family" was hip? - while several classic revivals didn't get nearly as much attention the second time around as they did during their first runs.

Netflix's GLOW was nominated for Best Comedy Series while Betty Gilpin, who portrays Debbie on the series, was nominated for Best Supporting Actress In a Comedy.

The TV industry has made recent strides toward inclusion, with Glover and Sterling K. Brown of "This Is Us" winning top acting awards previous year and both nominated again.

Just five years after the launch of its first original series, "House of Cards", Netflix ended HBO's 17-year streak as the most Emmy-nominated network. Although it's up for top series honors, it drew only three supporting actor bids for cast members Lena Headey, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Peter Dinklage.

"You are basically writing a show about the way you pray that the world won't go, and then it starts going that way".

Shawn Levy, a producer of "Stranger Things", got the good news after landing in NY following weeks of directing season three episodes in Georgia. "Our deepest fear was complacency".

A slew of first time Emmy contenders included Sandra Oh as the first Asian-American lead comedy actress nominee for her role in quirky spy series "Killing Eve", and Rachel Brosnahan's 1950s housewife turned comedian in "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel".

Lead actor in a drama series: Jason Bateman (Ozark); Sterling K Brown (This Is Us); Ed Harris (Westworld); Matthew Rhys (The Americans); Milo Ventimiglia (This Is Us); and Jeffrey Wright (Westworld). The Rock's Ballers on HBO was nominated for Outstanding Sound Editing for a Comedy or Drama Series. Though Graham didn't earn an Emmy bid for the long-running HBO series, the show is nevertheless up for Best Comedy Series, Best Comedy Actor (Larry David) and twice for Best Comedy Guest Actor (Lin-Manuel Miranda and Bryan Cranston).

"It's truly an honor to be nominated, and especially nice not to be the oldest person in the category".
