Thai soccer team cave rescue operation begins on Sunday

Five boys have been rescued till now, and divers are continuing with the rescue operations.

Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha was visiting all eight in the nearby hospital that they were helicoptered to, he said.

"You can't make a horror movie that would even compare", said Anmar Mirza with the National Cave Rescue Mission. "We will not push them too hard on their studies", he said, adding that extra tutoring will be given to allow the boys to catch up on their missed work.

Monday's rescue effort took about nine hours, two fewer than the day before, in a sign of growing confidence and expertise.

Among those are United States military partners, British cave diving experts - including the two men who first located the boys a week ago - and rescue workers from Australia, China and other countries.

Authorities have said the boys are being held close to divers and wear oxygen masks to enable normal breathing.

It had been assumed that the four extracted yesterday were boys, but it emerged that the fourth person taken out was the coach, Mr Ekapol.

Cave rescue experts have said they consider an underwater escape to be a last resort, especially with people untrained in diving.

Thailand cave rescue: How did they get trapped?

The "Wild Boars" soccer team and their coach got trapped on June 23 when they set out to explore the vast cave complex after soccer practice, when a rainy season downpour flooded the tunnels.

The Atlantic Hurricane Season's Next Storm Could Develop off Bermuda
The latest forecast from the National Hurricane Center has the storm potentially becoming a Category 2 hurricane this weekend. The depression was located about 1,385 miles east-southeast of the Lesser Antilles and was moving west at 16 mph.

Officials lavished praise on the Thai and global divers who, in pairs of two, executed the unsafe rescue mission, guiding the boys, who could barely swim and had no diving experience, through a treacherous 2½-mile-long escape route that twisted and turned through the cavern. Two other boys came out at 7:40 p.m. and 7:50 p.m.

A total of eight boys have now been taken out of the Tham Luang Nang Non cave, according to the Thai navy SEAL group, which has a leading role in the rescue operation.

Musk willingness to help manifested itself since last week, when he said he will be sending a Boring company team to the site.

Change Mai governor Narongsak Osottanakorn said on Monday that the rescued boys' identities were being protected out of respect for the families of those still trapped inside the cave.

Narongsak also said Monday that the condition of the five remaining people in the cave is "still good".

US Embassy Bangkok spokesman Steve Castonguay said that "The US will remain here to continue to support this operation until all the soccer players and their coach have been rescued". The four evacuated on Monday were also hospitalized, although their condition was not announced.

Three Thai Navy Seal divers and a medic are still on their way out of the cave.

He told reporters the four rescued boys were taken to the hospital in the town of Chiang Rai, the provincial capital, for evaluation, and the next phase of the operation will resume after about 10-20 hours.
