Multi-vehicle crash kills five and injures four in New Castle County

20-year-old Kaitlyn, 17-year-old Danna and 13-year-old twins Melissa and Allison; died when a pickup truck crossed a median on a DE highway Friday and struck the family's minivan head-on. Trinidad's 53-year-old wife was hospitalized with serious injuries.

Authorities in DE said the family was driving north on Route 1 in their minivan around 4 p.m. when a work truck crossed the center grass median, slammed into another vehicle and then collided with the minivan.

The family was returning from a trip to Ocean City, Maryland Friday afternoon when a pickup truck crossed the median for unknown reasons, struck a vehicle and skidded into the path of their minivan. After working with the U.S. Navy, Trinidad was a postal worker in the Bronx.

Danna, Mary Rose, Allison, Audie, Kaitlyn, and Melissa Trinidad.

Police didn't immediately know the ages of the children or what part of New Jersey the family was from, Jaffe said.

The father's and daughters' bodies were unrecognizable after the crash, Audie Trinidad's brother, Daniel Trinidad, told The Post.

Audie Trinidad, 61, was pronounced dead at the scene.

"For unknown reasons, the F-350 failed to remain in the southbound lanes of travel and exited the roadway, crossing over the grassy median and into the northbound lanes of travel", read a statement shared on the Delaware State Police website by public information officer Melissa Jaffe. The driver of the Sable, a 24-year-old man from Bethlehem PA, was transported to a local area hospital where he was treated and released with non-life threatening injuries.He wasproperly restrained.
