Did Cohen Just Fire a Warning Shot at Trump?

Did Cohen Just Fire a Warning Shot at Trump?

"And always will. I put family and country first".

Because of that possibility, Epner said a presidential pardon for Cohen would actually "increase the risk to" Trump that Cohen would flip on him.

'To be crystal clear, my wife, my daughter and my son, and this country have my first loyalty, ' Michael Cohen told ABC News in an interview broadcast Monday.

"Some people are speculating that this is Michael Cohen making a final threat/plea to POTUS for a pardon", Mitchell Epner, an attorney at Rottenberg Lipman Rich who was previously an assistant USA attorney for the District of New Jersey, told Business Insider. He has not yet been arrested or charged with any crime. But he also did nothing to dampen such speculation, taking issue with some of Trump's criticisms of the special counsel's Russian Federation investigation and even going out of his way to praise the FBI. He says he doesn't agree with people who demonize or vilify the Federal Bureau of Investigation like Donald Trump does.

On May 2, the watchdog organization sought "all records of communications" between Rosenstein and the US attorney's office for the Southern District of NY "about Michael Cohen and/or the executed search warrants of Cohen's office, home, and hotel room", plus "all records of communications" between Mueller and the attorney's office "about Michael Cohen and/or the executed search warrants of Cohen's office, home, and hotel room". "Nonetheless, the agents were respectful, courteous and professional".

Stephanopoulos said he asked Cohen repeatedly if he was considering cooperating with prosecutors in their probe.

Trump has openly doubted the conclusions of current and past US intelligence officials, who say Russian Federation actively meddled in the 2016 election campaign. "But I can't comment now on the advice of my counsel", he said.

The Cohen interview was released on the same day that a former federal judge vetting material seized from him said in a court filing that over a million items were turned over to prosecutors after she determined they weren't protected by attorney-client privilege. As has proven true in this entire saga, this case is being tried in the media just as much as its being tried in the courtroom, and I wouldn't be surprised if even Cohen doesn't draw a distinction at this point. Among other things, investigators have been looking into a payment that was made to a porn-film actress who says she had an affair with Trump in 2006.

Trump unleashes trade war with latest tariffs on China
But eventually those costs will take their toll on the average wallet - and it likely won't be simply because of these tariffs . When products on the list for extra levies are declared to customs, the importer will pay the additional levies.

'I want to regain my name and my reputation and my life back, ' he added. He also retained a new lawyer, Guy Petrillo, a former chief of the criminal division of the USA attorney's office in Manhattan. Cohen's current attorney did not immediately respond for comment.

Cohen, in an interview with ABC, indicated he would be cooperative with prosecutors investigating his business dealings and probes into Russian meddling in the 2016 USA election.

"I don't like the term 'witch hunt, '" Cohen was quoted as saying.

The shift in legal strategy and signals of potential cooperation with investigators come as Cohen feels increasingly isolated from the President, whom he has been famously loyal to for more than a decade.

Asked about how he would respond to Trump's legal defense attempting to discredit his work, Cohen said that he wouldn't be "a punching bag".

"As an American, I repudiate Russia's or any other foreign government's attempt to interfere or meddle in our democratic process, and I would call on all Americans to do the same", Mr Cohen said.

"Simply accepting the denial of [Russian Vladimir Putin] is unsustainable".
