Injuries raise doubts about Brazil's World Cup preparations

Injuries raise doubts about Brazil's World Cup preparations

Team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar announced late Saturday that Danilo, the right back who plays for Manchester City could play in the round-of-16 match on Monday at Samara Stadium.

Brazil's team doctor has offered a weird excuse for why defender Marcelo was substituted during the country's final group match against Serbia on Thursday.

The Real Madrid left-back was forced off in the 10th minute of Brazil's 2-0 win over Serbia on Wednesday after suffering a back spasm. "Maybe the mattress in the hotel was softer than usual, but the key was it a bad move in the match", added Lasmar. "He could not continue in the game, because his muscles became locked up".

Marcelo has missed games for Real Madrid due to muscle problems in both of the last two seasons.

He had a very good feeling for how to manage the tires, the slip, the control, so it was a really impressive job. Nico Hulkenberg's engine let go early in the race while pole-sitter Valtteri Bottas had a gearbox failure.

Brazil coach Adenor Leonardo Bacchi, best known as Tite, confirmed on Sunday that defender Filipe Luis will replace Marcelo against Mexico in the round of 16 at the FIFA World Cup 2018.

Questions were raised after Renato Augusto, Danilo, Douglas Costa and Marcelo all got hit by injuries before and during the World Cup. Thankfully it was nothing serious and I'll be back in no time!

Juventus winger Costa is recovering well, said Lasmar, but will not be fit for Monday's match in Samara.
