Uruguay Coach Tabarez Expects Tough Time Handling France’s Griezmann, Mbappe

URUGUAY boss Oscar Tabarez believes his side can beat France in Friday's quarter-final, even if they do not dominate possession.

Portugal hasn't reached the World Cup quarterfinals since 2006, when a young Ronaldo led the team to the semifinals.

Ronaldo played a pivotal role in France during Portugal's triumphant campaign two years ago, and during the tournament in Russian Federation he became Europe's top global goal-scorer and only second in the world to Iran's Ali Daei.

Cristiano Ronaldo declined to comment on his global future after bowing out of the World Cup following Portugal's 2-1 defeat by Uruguay.

"I'd like to congratulate Uruguay, who scored twice, but I'd also like to praise Portugal for what they did".

"Now it's not the time to talk about the future", Ronaldo said.

According to the French sports daily L'Equipe, the 31-year-old, who scored three goals in four matches at the World Cup in Russian Federation, underwent a medical examination and was diagnosed with muscle damage in his left calf, though he had avoided rupturing the muscle in question.

This time it could be coming home: Fans roar on England
Many thought it was a case of classic England - king of the choke - once again finding a way to lose the unlosable. Colombia forced extra-time, then ultimately penalties, following Yerry Mina's dramatic header in stoppage time.

Speaking after the Portugal game, Cavani had said: "I hope it's nothing. We have many young players who desire to achieve team success", he said.

While Mbappe was the most influential player on the pitch, Argentina's Angel Di Maria and France full back Benjamin Pavard fought out a private contest for the best goal of the contest with two magnificent long-range strikes.

Both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo's World Cups have come to an end after Round of 16 defeats to France and Uruguay.

"Cristiano still has a lot to give to football", he told reporters after the match.

Edinson Cavani's two goals ensured Uruguay's victory against Portugal by 2-1. We don't know for sure how grave this injury really is'.

"This team will continue to be one of the best in the world, with quality players, a young group, united". Obviously I'm very happy for (Cavani's) goals and that they helped us win. But we will try our best and look to impose our way of playing on them, using our strengths.

"In a World Cup you have the top-level players", said Mbappe, who plays for Paris Saint-Germain.
