Again, the goal owed more than a little to bad defending when a Sime Vrsaljko cross was hammered by Henrik Dalsgaard into fellow Dane Andreas Christensen and the ball fell obligingly in the penalty area to Mario Mandzukic who scored.

106' - Second period of extra time begins.

Substitute Pione Sisto spun and curled a shot narrowly wide, before Ivan Rakitic struck the winning penalty.

Rebic, along with Andrej Kramaric and Ivan Perisic may feature ahead of the midfield duo of Modric and Rakitic. Jorgensen brought him down from behind, and a yellow card was given as per the recent rule where you can't have a penalty kick and a red card if the player is going for the ball. Up stepped Modric and up stepped Schmeichel, and the yellow-clad net minder extend to swat away the penalty. It has been a long wait for both these sides to enter the knockout phase with Denmark last qualifying from their group in 2002 while Croatia did the same last in 1998.

Neither could force a victor during extra-time either, with Kasper Schmeichel saving a 116th-minute penalty from Modric, meaning spot-kicks were required.
