Marouane Fellaini signs new two-year deal at Manchester United

"I feel like this team, under Jose (Mourinho) still has a lot we want to achieve".

"I am pleased to be continuing my journey as a Manchester United player", declared Fellaino.

Marouane Fellaini on Friday signed a two-year contract extension with Manchester United to keep him at the club until the summer of 2020, with the option of an extra year.

The 30-year-old was set to be a free agent when his contract expired on July 1, and he promised to reveal a decision on his future on Sunday while he is at the World Cup with Belgium.

The Belgian midfielder, who featured in Thursday night's win over England in the ongoing World Cup in Russian Federation, thanked Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho "for the faith he has" in him.

During his five-year spell at Old Trafford, Fellaini has made 156 appearances and scored 20 goals, winning the FA Cup, EFL Cup, Europa League and Community Shield.

Spurs 'ready' to Move on from Kawhi Leonard
James has until Friday at 11:59 ET to decline his player option with the Cleveland Cavaliers to become an unrestricted free agent. The Spurs' Kawhi Leonard , left, split a pair of NBA Finals showdowns with LeBron James when the latter was with the Heat.

Marouane Fellaini has signed a new contract with Manchester United.

However, in the last few hours, it has been claimed that Fellaini is close to agreeing on a new deal to stay at United.

The decision has enabled Mourinho to shelve plans to sign another midfielder following the arrival of Fred or £53m.

On the surface, this would appear to be a happy story for all parties, but a glance at the reaction from United fans who responded to the club's announcement of the Fellaini deal on Twitter confirmed an alternative narrative.

After the contract was official, Mourinho said the following: "I am very happy Marouane is staying with us".
