France vow to end Lionel Messi's World Cup dreams

France vow to end Lionel Messi's World Cup dreams

France have never beaten Argentina at a World Cup or in any competitive game.

France cruised to the round of 16 stage with much ease after registering two wins and a draw in group stages while on the other hand, Argentina stuttered in the first two games but ultimately secured qualification for advanced stages by winning the final group match.

But while Messi can rely on a reliable Luis Suarez at Barca, he is a bit more on his own with Argentina, with Gonzalo Higuain having notably not scored in his last eight outings with the national team. After their poor draw against World Cup debutants Iceland, Lionel Messi and Co were thrashed 3-0 by Croatia.

It took a great touch of control, following a superb pass from teammate Ever Banega, for Messi to finally open his account in Russian Federation in the 2-1 win over Nigeria only sealed by Marcos Rojo's 86th minute volley.

"As we said, this is a new tournament that begins, and I think we have to depend on our collective strength, on a defensive solidity and we know our attacking potential", Lloris added.

He also has to deal with the weight of a whole nation expecting him to win the World Cup in what is likely to be his last shot at the biggest trophy in football.

Romelu Lukaku: It’s now or never for Belgium’s golden generation
Maybe the two tournaments were a bit different where we arrived and we were thinking about what was going to happen. Lukaku has 15 goals in his last 10 worldwide matches but left in the 59th minute after injuring an ankle ligament.

Argentina have won the World Cup twice (1978, 1986), France once (1998).

France and Argentina Live streaming India Time: It will be nothing less than a superstar clash on Saturday when Argentina will lock horns with France in the first Round of 16 match in FIFA World Cup 2018. He is the last Argentinean player to score against France, back in February 2009 in a friendly (2-0).

Jorge Sampaoli's side may have disappointed, but they showed more in one game than France in three, scoring only two goals in open play.

"Honestly, I have not decided yet on the starting lineup".

But Les Bleus insist they will be ready just on time for Saturday's game after a tailor-made physical preparation, with talismanic striker Antoine Griezmann expected to finally shine. In 2006, France huffed and puffed into the knockout rounds, where they beat Spain, Brazil and Portugal en route to the final. I've seen something from France that tells me they could click at some point, however, I look at Argentina and they are an old team.
