Belgium striker Michy Batshuayi’s celebration blunder

Belgium striker Michy Batshuayi’s celebration blunder

The Belgium striker became an internet sensation on Friday morning (NZ time) when he produced a moment of hilarity when celebrating team-mate Adnan Januzaj's goal in their 1-0 win over England in Russian Federation.

When Adnan Januzaj scored a stunning goal to give Belgium the lead against England, he must have felt like nothing would trump it.

All the pre-match talk had been about whether second place might offer an easier path to the semi-finals, given that the group winners could face Brazil in the last eight.

In the 68th minute, Mario Gomez tried to head one home, but Jo was there to stop it standing tall in the middle of the net. South Korea will be forced to cope with the absence of captain Ki Sung-yueng, who has been ruled out with a calf injury.

Things certainly didn't go as planned for Michy Batshuayi.

Belgium coach Roberto Martinez fielded Thomas Vermaelen at right-back after injury and sent on central defensive talisman Vincent Kompany near the end to complete a clean sweep with all 20 outfield players in the squad having played in Russian Federation.

Degryse said of former Manchester United midfielder Januzaj: "Immediately after the break we saw a class flash from Januzaj, who showed that he deserves his selection".

Rashford had by a distance England's best chance 25 minutes from time, but again slotted wide with just Courtois to beat.
