Jared Leto to Star in Spider-Man Spinoff 'Morbius'

The 46-year-old looks set to play the titular villain in the motion picture after he met several filmmakers who were keen to helm the project including Daniel Espinosa who will direct the project. The "method" actor, who played The Joker in DC's Suicide Squad and will reprise the role in an upcoming origin story, has now wormed his way into the Marvel universe. He first appeared in 1971's Amazing Spider-Man No. 101 - the first issue not written by Spider-Man co-creator Stan Lee.

Late last week, the news had broken regarding the next move for Sony in regard to their lineup of Spider-Man spin-offs, with Silk looking like it could be the next big centerpiece (assumption: mine) of their lineup of Spidey-less universe blockbusters.

The character started off life as a scientist but his life was turned upside down when he attempted to cure himself of a blood disease with disastrous results, leaving him with vampire fangs and a thirst for blood.

Morbius: The Living Vampire battled with Spider-Man on numerous occasions but over the time he became a slightly heroic figure in his own right.

Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach will produce with Lucas Foster. The actor is also set to star in two movies about his Suicide Squad character. It will follow both Venom in October and Spider-Man: Far from Home, which is to premiere next year.

It remains to be seen how the Morbius movie will connect to Tom Holland's Spider-Man adventures, if it ever will at all.
