Why Richmond voters can only choose Republicans this primary election

A statewide primary will decide the Republican nominee for the U.S. Senate.

"Mark Sanford has been very unhelpful to me in my campaign to MAGA", the president tweeted, using the initials for his campaign slogan "Make America Great Again".

"He is MIA and nothing but trouble", Trump added.

"I fully endorse Katie Arrington for Congress in (South Carolina), a state I love", Trump continued. "She is tough on crime and will continue our fight to lower taxes".

The president has come out strongly against Rep Mark Sanford (R-SC) in his primary battle against Katie Arrington in South Carolina's 1st District. Hill's campaign for the Republican nomination then was cut short by a vote by acclamation for consultant and lobbyist Ed Gillespie, who narrowly lost to Warner in that election. Now Trump is returning the favor with a last-minute endorsement of his primary rival, which brings up Sanford's infamous affair. "Adam is smart, works hard, and knows how to win".

Last year, Virginia Democrats saw a wave election, propelling Ralph Northam to the governor's mansion and flipping 15 Republican seats in the House of Delegates.

Republican Rep. Barbara Comstock in northern Virginia's 10th District will face the victor of a six-way Democratic primary.

The favorite is state Sen.

South Carolina, Nevada, North Dakota and ME also will choose candidates for the November 6 races that could help determine control of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, including two of the most competitive Senate races.

"There's the potential absolutely of Nevada turning blue this year, if they can get the turnout", said David Damore, a political-science professor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Still, she'll face a hard general election against Rep. Kevin Cramer, R-N.D., the likely GOP Senate nominee.

Just six of the nation's governors are women, and candidates in three states voting on Tuesday are hoping to position themselves to join their ranks.

Corey Stewart, Nick Freitas and E.W. Jackson are vying for the GOP Senate nomination in what's expected to be a hard year for Republicans. Tim Kaine. As a moderate who gained national prominence as Hillary Clinton's 2016 running mate, Kaine is widely expected to win - not even counting the possibility that Republicans could make another Roy Moore-style blunder.

That's in part due to Virginia's changing demographics, particularly the northern part of the state becoming more dense, more diverse and more progressive.

It's an incredibly confusing primary with six Democrats competing for the chance to run against the Republican incumbent.

Democrats in VA-06: Candidates are Jennifer Lewis, Peter Volosin, Charlotte Moore, Sergio Coppola; Republicans have nominated Del. No Republican challenger filed to face him. Heidi Heitkamp, at the 2018 North Dakota Republican Party Convention in Grand Forks, North Dakota, U.S. April 7, 2018. Republicans said she's trying to hide her extreme views. If he fails to top 50%, it would catapult him into a one-on-one runoff.

This office is now held by Republican Robert Wittman.

Helmer said he would support impeaching Trump without hesitation, accusing him of violating the emoluments clause of the Constitution and obstruction of justice by firing former FBI Director James Comey. The front-runner is Elaine Luria, a Navy veteran and businesswoman who's been endorsed by the party. Pete Domenici and Michelle Laxalt, the daughter of former Nevada governor and senator Paul Laxalt.
