Singapore's Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan also tweeted a picture of them going "jalan-jalan", a local term meaning to go out for a walk, in the Gardens by the Bay park.

They discussed Singapore-North Korea relations and developments on the Korean peninsula amidst Kim thanking the Singaporean premier for hosting the summit.

Details were not shared about how the discussions have progressed so far and Trump and Kim have yet to meet face-to-face.

When she attended the opening ceremony of the PyeongChang Winter Olympics earlier this year, she became the first member of North Korea's ruling family to visit South Korea since the end of the 1950-53 Korean War.

Security is tight ahead of the summit between two unpredictable men who in the past have threatened to destroy the other's country during the stand-off over North Korea's nukes.

Trump and Kim landed in a city teeming with media and onlookers of all stripes, from foreign policy analysts like Kelly and Enos to former basketball star Dennis Rodman, who claims to be a friend of the two leaders.

On Sunday, Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong met with Kim following the latter's arrival in the country for the upcoming talks with Trump, scheduled for Tuesday. They will be joined only by translators and will spend a couple of hours before admitting their close advisers to the meeting.

The official did not rule out the possibility that additional activities could be added to tomorrow's schedule, beyond the two planned meetings with Kim, ABC News' Jordyn Phelps reports.

Trump has said he hopes to make a legacy-defining deal for the North to give up its nuclear weapons, though he has recently sought to minimize expectations, saying more than one meeting may be necessary.

The walkabout occurred less than 12 hours before Kim's potentially world-changing day of diplomacy, when he will become the first-ever North Korean leader to meet with a sitting US President.

He left early, and as he flew to Singapore, he tweeted that he was yanking the US out of the traditional group statement.

North Korea had also threatened to strike Guam, an American territory in the Pacific Ocean.

"Because of difficulties finding a job these days, I have lost much interest in those things".

South Korean news agency The Chosunilbo reported that when Kim arrived in Singapore this week on an Air China Boeing 747, he also was accompanied by an IL-76 transport plane carrying food, "his bullet-proof limousine and a portable toilet".

Exuding confidence, Trump said he has done relatively little formal preparation.

Plans for the meeting almost foundered after Trump abruptly withdrew in May, citing North Korea's "open hostility" during negotiations.
