Trump blasts Canada, calls for Russian Federation to be returned to G8

Both the leaders are participating at the 18th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of State meeting, which got under way today and is being attended by India, Russia along with other allies.

Trump has repeatedly put himself at odds with practically the entire United States political and security establishment over Russian meddling in the 2016 Presidential Election.

But Trump on Friday called on world leaders to allow Russian Federation back into the G7, the group of leading industrialized democracies.

Mr. Putin said last month that the proposed summit between him and Trump was not working out for now and was beset by problems.

Both leaders also issued a joint declaration pledging to preserve the global accord on Iran's nuclear programme which the U.S. withdrew from last month.

Trump said on Friday that Russian Federation should have attended a Group of Seven summit in Canada over the weekend, an idea that even Moscow seemed to reject saying it was focused on other formats.

"Both share scepticism towards American hegemony and distrust United States intentions, both are authoritarian personalistic rulers", he said.

Russia's President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani met Saturday to discuss regional issues including both countries' involvement in the Syrian civil war and the USA withdrawal from a landmark nuclear deal with Iran.

Vienna possible venue for Trump-Putin summit
Vienna has been discussed as a possible venue for a summit between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump , the Kremlin said Saturday. On 1 June, the U.S. imposed a 25% tariff for steel and 10% for aluminium on imports from the EU, Canada, and Mexico .

"For Putin, this is return on his investment, and it's safe to say that his investment has paid off beyond even his wildest dreams".

Xi presented the medal described by the official media as the "highest state honour of China" at a special ceremony at the Great Hall of People during which he expressed his respect and admiration for Putin's contributions and efforts to building a peaceful world. And I would recommend - and it's up to them, but Russian Federation should be in the meeting, it should be a part of it.

The Associated Press reported that Putin addressed the issue at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, two days after Trump recommended Russian Federation should again be part what was previously the G8.

Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed during a visit to Austria this week the possibility of Vienna playing host to a summit with his USA counterpart Donald Trump, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Saturday.

Founded in 2001, the Beijing-based bloc was originally conceived as a vehicle for resolving border issues, fighting terrorism and - more implicitly - to counter American influence in Central Asia following its invasion of Afghanistan.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Sunday criticized US "unliteralism" in withdrawing from the Iran nuclear deal and said he appreciated efforts by China and Russian Federation to maintain the agreement.

SCO nations may discuss the potential of a joint free trade area, she said, as China also pushes for participation in its Belt and Road global infrastructure project.
