Porsche Gives Taycan Name To Road-Going Mission E Concept

Porsche Taycan will be the name for the firm's first all-electric auto. Although the Taycan shares a similar silhouette to the Panamera saloon, the Tesla Model S rival will be more compact and cheaper; entry-level versions priced between £60,000 and £70,000 mean it will carry only a small premium over its main rival. The company has announced that their first ever EV will be called Porsche Taycan. The four-door, four-seat Taycan's floor-mounted batteries point to an extremely low centre of gravity and handling to match more focused performance machines. Porsche executives have said that more electric cars will follow.

Though Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine already took a crack at it, and a small cadre of the automotive press got to drive a prototype a few miles at low speed to tease the powertrain, the Mission E electric sport sedan continues to move at a tantalizingly slow pace toward reality. It's also expanding an existing engine plant to build electric drivelines.

This output should give the auto, which Webber admits is "heavier" than a standard Porsche due to its electric powertrain, a 0-62mph time of around three and a half seconds. The variants, of which there is likely to be three, will vary from around 400bhp up to 600bhp.

Nadal has Schwartzman battle on his hands
Nadal also called for a medical time-out at the end of the first set to receive some treatment on both of his wrists. This is a guy who entered the day 5-0 against Schwartzman , having won 12 of their sets.

Porsche is bullish about the future of its full-electric Mission E Cross Turismo study that debuted at the auto show here this week.

Over-the-air updates will be possible on the Porsche Taycan, upgrading on-board infotainment systems and safety tech, but also offering to boost power if the customer wishes. Announcing the name, the company has even released a teaser video that reveals that the Porsche Taycan features a fully digital instrument cluster - a first for a Porsche.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk's naming strategy is racier in a different way: He was shooting to have the Model Line up read S, E, X, Y, until Ford scuppered his "E". Particularly noteworthy is that the Taycan's 800V charging technology will enable 100km of range with just 4 min of charge.
