Authorities have not offered any estimate of how many people might still be missing. Explosions from the volcano can be as high as 656 feet, the institute reported.

Meanwhile the Israeli embassy and a team from Israel's Zaka emergency service have launched efforts in Guatemala to provide aid and basic necessities to those affected, including blankets, medicine, first aid kits and water purification tablets. Over the years, the volcano is known for strombolian activity, which means it can produce moderate eruptions.
