Nadal has Schwartzman battle on his hands

An earlier rain interruption appeared to do Nadal some good.

Once Nadal and Schwartzman do take to the court, we should be in for an exhibition of power-hitting from the greatest clay-courter of all time against a player who despite standing at just 5ft 7in packs a mighty punch from the baseline.

Russian 14th seed Daria Kasatkina stunned world number two and Australian Open champion Caroline Wozniacki 7-6 (7/5), 6-3 to reach her first Grand Slam quarter-final at Roland Garros on Monday.

Nadal also called for a medical time-out at the end of the first set to receive some treatment on both of his wrists.

Nadal then fought back to lead the second set 5-3, before heavy rain brought a halt to the last-eight encounter on Court Philippe Chatrier.

But as in the first set, Nadal's riposte was swift, chasing down a drop-shot to set up a break-back opportunity, converted when Marterer thumped a forehand long.

They'll get to know me as a person, I was confident with that. "And we have to be prepared for that". "We have to be good". Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue said the team understands the series will be a short one if they can not win in Cleveland.

This is a guy who entered the day 5-0 against Schwartzman, having won 12 of their sets.

Spain's Rafael Nadal stretches to return the ball to Switzerland's Stan Wawrinka during their final match of the French Open tennis tournament.

More important than that, of course, is the match's ultimate outcome, and a significant moment came with Schwartzman serving while up 3-2 in the second after the initial delay.

But Schwartzman delivered a warning to Nadal in the first game - forcing him to save four break points, before finding a way through on the Spaniard's following service game.

That was part of a 15-minute roll of three consecutive games for Nadal, a wave during which he collected 13 of 15 points to close in on that set.
