Eastern time on June 11 - for what is expected to be a one-day summit.

With no precedence to draw comparisons from, speculations are rising on every aspect of the summit, from Kim's journey to Singapore to where the two leaders will pose for photographs.

That means traffic will be diverted and all vehicles passing through will be checked for explosives.

Friday Trump downplayed expectations for a major breakthrough at the summit, saying it will be the beginning of a process.

The announcement of the timing for the first meeting between the two leaders came just three days after Trump hosted a senior North Korean delegation at the White House bearing a letter from Kim.

The Capella Hotel in Singapore has been chosen to host the historic event.

It is not clear exactly where Mr Trump and Mr Kim will stay at the hotel, but previous reports have suggested that the North Korean leader desires a suite and that the United States government may be willing to pay for it.

While the notorious Shangri-La Hotel was tipped as a likely venue for the much-anticipated meeting, it was announced it would be held at the luxurious Capella Hotel on Sentosa - a resort island off Singapore's southern coast.

On Monday, it had declared a central region that is home to its Foreign Ministry, the U.S. Embassy and several hotels, as a special zone from June 10 to 14.

Still, concerns have simmered in Tokyo that Trump, his eye on November congressional elections, could cut a deal that would allow him to boast of protecting US cities from nuclear attack but leave Japan vulnerable to shorter range missiles.

Earlier this year, Donald Trump said he planned to meet Vladimir Putin very soon.

The Singapore summit is a result of Mr Trump's spontaneity, after he accepted Kim's invitation to talk - relayed by Seoul officials - without consulting his aides.
