Tom Brady Steals Limelight, Lives Best Life At F1 Monaco Grand Prix

Red Bull team boss Christian Horner has heaped praise on Ricciardo's performance in Monaco and compared it to Michael Schumacher's famous 1994 Spanish Grand Prix drive to second, where the German's auto was stuck in fifth gear. His agile Red Bull had looked impressive in practice, having the better of Mercedes and Ferrari around Monaco's street circuit, an unusually slow and winding track by F1's standards.

Ricciardo topped every practice session and qualifying segment in the build-up to the race.

"I've got loss of power, " the 28-year-old suddenly announced on the team radio, and immediately began limping the vehicle around the track about 30km/h slower than his previous speed. "I've done everything I can so far, let's finish this job tomorrow". He got close but there were already signs of graining on his front left tyre, and that severely damaged his chances of getting a good run onto one of Monaco's short straights to attempt an overtaking manoeuvre.

They say it's hard to overtake in Monaco, but even with a margin, Verstappen was able to make good progress through the field from last on the grid.

It was his first Monaco victory, his second this season and the seventh of his career, but a landmark feat heralded by his team boss Christian Horner.

"This place bites", Horner told Channel 4.

Daniel Ricciardo storms to dominant pole position at Monaco Grand Prix

Fernando Alonso termed the 2018 Monaco Grand Prix as the most boring race ever.

The proffered explanation for Brady's absence has been that he needs to make more time for his family during the offseason. "He knows that more than anybody".

Lewis Hamilton led the paddock dissent following another procession that yielded a pole-to-flag victory for Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo.

Despite dominating in Monaco, the Red Bull driver refused to get carried away when asked whether he's a realistic contender for this year's title by stating Red Bull had to perform and prove itself on different types of circuits first. "I've given it everything I could". We're going to make sure we're on our toes and able to react tomorrow. Hamilton was a distant third, 17.013s off the race leader after facing issues with his tyres.

The Australian is out of contract with Red Bull at the end of the year and champions Mercedes or Ferrari are possible alternatives, with Finns Valtteri Bottas and Kimi Raikkonen yet to be confirmed.

Force India driver Esteban Ocon suggested Sunday that there is an unwritten rule that he won't hold up any Mercedes factory driver during a Grand Prix event - the Frenchman being part of the Mercedes young driver setup. By the end of Lap 5, the top-10 drivers were comfortably settled and racing in the positions they started the race in - offering an early indication that fans would have to endure a long afternoon ahead.
