NHL Stanley Cup: Vegas Golden Knights close to beating 500-1 odds

NHL Stanley Cup: Vegas Golden Knights close to beating 500-1 odds

The Vegas Golden Knights' incredible inaugural season isn't slowing down in the Stanley Cup Final.

Monday marked the first game for the Capitals in the Cup final since their only other appearance in 1998, when they were swept in four straight by the Detroit Red Wings. "We have more to our game".

Brett Connolly, Nicklas Backstrom and John Carlson also scored for Washington, but its biggest stars didn't match the Knights' outburst.

Several Sin City establishments, including MGM Resorts and ARIA, have followed suit and changed their promotions on the Internet to be lower-cased in support of the Golden Knights. But the teams played four on four for the next two minutes, with Wilson getting whistled for interference, while David Perron went off for cross-checking in the ensuing scuffle.

The Caps came right back, though, scoring two goals to claim their first lead of the series.

Reaves didn't score at all in his first 26 games after joining the Knights in a trade, but the rough-and-tumble forward broke through with the winning goal in the Western Conference finals clincher against Winnipeg. This time, he initiated it with a blind-side, late hit on Jonathan Marchessault-the Golden Knights' leading scorer in the playoffs.

Wilson delivered his crushing open-ice hit moments later to Marchessault, who was shaken up on the play.

"I haven't obviously slowed it down and looked at it, but I think he'd probably say he shouldn't have admired his pass, and I'm just finishing my check", Wilson said. It's playoff hockey, there's going to be big hits, it's a contact sport.

"But here we are today, and I never could have guessed how well this team would have come together".

Tied 2-2 after a back-and-forth first, Smith swatted home his third of the post-season off a Deryk Engelland feed from behind the net at 3:21 of the second with Holtby swimming in his crease after Marchessault grazed the crossbar seconds earlier. Vegas improved to 11-1 in the postseason when scoring first.

This is a question I've asked quite a few times over the last months while canvasing for the local elections in London. He gave his word on this, now he must deliver on it.
