Roberto Mancini charged with rebuilding Italy

Roberto Mancini will leave his job as Zenit St. Petersburg coach on Monday ahead of an expected appointment with the Italian national team.

The 53-year-old has been heavily linked with the Italy job, the Azzurri now seeking a new head coach following the dismissal of Gian Piero Ventura.

This comes in the wake of Gian Piero Ventura's sacking after his failure to lead the nation to this year's World Cup.

The FIGC said in a brief statement that it had reached an agreement with the 53-year-old, who would be presented to the media on Tuesday.

The move comes one day after Mancini agreed to terminate his contract as manager of Zenit St Petersburg, which paved the way for him to negotiate his Italy deal.

The conditions were very tricky out there, the track was unpredictable and it was unclear which tyre to go with. Bottas and Vettel also spun but were able to continue their runs without significant damage.

"Tomorrow will be the official presentation at Coverciano, it will be the formalisation of a long-standing discussion". Milan youngsters Gianluigi Donnarumma and Alessio Romagnoli also look like future stalwarts in another formidable Italian backline.

Balotelli, who has not played for Italy since the 2014 World Cup, featured under Mancini at both Inter Milan and Manchester City.

Since leaving City in 2013 he has managed Galatasaray and Inter again before being appointed Zenit boss.

His first match in charge will be a friendly against Saudi Arabia in Switzerland on May 28.

Luigi Di Biagio had been in interim charge of the senior side during the hunt for a long-term successor, with Carlo Ancelotti and Chelsea boss Antonio Conte among the other leading candidates.
