Asteroid 2010 WC9 to pass between Earth and Moon tomorrow

The football field-sized asteroid will fly closest to our planet on May 15, at 6:05 p.m. EDT, at about 126,419 miles from Earth, as per EarthSky. At 11.05 pm on Tuesday, Asteroid 2010 WC9 will make its closest approach from Earth. The Catalina Sky Survey in Arizona first detected it on November 30, 2010.

It may be a long shot to endlessly aim at the sky, trying to locate the passing asteroid. Again find a heavenly body was only may 8, 2018.

Astronomers had picked up this asteroid in 2010 but then lost track of it until recently and now it's getting ready to pass closer than normal to us!

The object's path to be the closest of this particular asteroid in almost 300 years, according to NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

Missing from the "radar" soon after its discovery in 2010, it was found by chance again on May 8th, while on its way for one of the closest flybys of the Earth for an object of this size. The asteroid injured more than a thousand people in Russian Federation when it exploded and shattered glass in the city, after which it was named.

The discovery and tracking of near-Earth asteroids is an ongoing global project which includes NASA as well as other agencies. The limited observations at the time did not allow its orbit to be well defined until it was observed in recent days, nearly eight years later. The effort goes on all the time, but on some occasions, the size, speed, and chemical composition of these objects make it extremely hard to observe them in visual wavelength.
