Lomachenko knocked out Linares and became the champion of world Boxing

Ukraine's Lomachenko survived a sixth-round knock-down to become the fastest boxer to win three world titles in different weight divisions in just his 12th professional fight. Understanding the reality of the math on the scorecards, Linares stepped it up in the ninth and stung Lomachenko with a solid combination in the middle of the round and continued to press forward. It's almost impossible to argue against Lomachenko as the best fighter in the game right now.

Moments later, he ended it.

When he eventually reached his feet, referee Ricky Gonzalez determined he couldn't continue at 2:08 of the 10th round. It happens. I prepared for the last few rounds, and my father told me, 'You need to go to the body.

Linares will have been familiar to British fans having beaten Anthony Crolla twice previous year, but Lomachenko's stock is rapidly rising in the professional ranks and this was a whole different kettle of fish for the Venezuelan.

Each fighter was ahead 86-84 on a judge's card, while Julie Lederman had it 85-all after nine rounds.

I think it will be a decision because Linares is also very tough.

It's nearly time for two of the best current Pound-for-Pound fighters to meet in the middle of the squared circle and with that, I wanted to do a bit of a comparison based on my views of their attributes so that we can look at how close this contest really is on paper!

The fighter widely known as Vasyl said this week he prefers to use Vasiliy, his legal name.

Conte defends Chelsea record ahead of final league game
This, in turn, had an effect on the team as Chelsea's dominance in the first half was capped off by the lack of end product. Newcastle have lost four games in a row and I don't see the Magpies returning to winning ways on Sunday, either.

Linares did catch Loma with a sweet left uppercut with a minute remaining, but the two-time Olympian again made him pay with a stinging combo to the body.

Of course we know that Vasyl Lomachenko (10-1, 8 KOs) is one of the most accomplished amateur boxers in history, having amassed an incredible record of 396-1. Lomachenko was looking to add his third world title in a third division since turning pro, and he enured it was a historic night.

It was clear Linares was somewhat frustrated by Lomachenko's speed, as he was warned once for rabbit punching and twice for low blows. Although Lomachenko has the higher "KO' ratio, he's not actually physically knocked as many opponents out as Linares, but has instead made them quit through frustration". However, a clean straight right hand by Linares in the sixth round sent Lomachenko to the mat.

"That right hand [in the sixth] it was a great punch".

That said, Lomachenko agrees he is now in with bigger boys.

However Jorge Linares felt the contest was stopped a little early when he spoke to media after the bout. But that was his last highlight.

It wasn't exactly a stereotypical action-packed Fight of the Year, yet Lomachenko vs Linares was well-fought, dramatic and had a big finish.
