Israel prepares for inauguration of United States embassy in Jerusalem

He called upon all components of the Palestinian people to participate in peaceful demonstrations against the relocation of the USA embassy to Jerusalem and against the extremist Israeli measures. "I think we're gonna make progress", he told Pirro who is in Jerusalem for the embassy opening.

The move comes as some companies in the USA are removing the president's name from their buildings.

Rival Palestinian faction Fatah, led by the Palestinian Authority in Ramallah that governs parts of the occupied West Bank, signed a reconciliation agreement with Hamas under Egypt's auspices in October 2017, but the terms of the agreement signed in the Egyptian capital have not been implemented. Trump has said the opening is meant to coincide with the 70th anniversary of Israel's establishment.

The incursion into Kerem Shalom took place during a weekly mass protest in which thousands of Palestinians gathered along the Israel-Gaza border. The UN, European Union and rights groups have accused Israel of using excessive force against unarmed protesters. Marchers have thrown stones and burned tires at the fence and flown flaming kites over it to try to set Israeli fields on fire.

John Bolton says moving the embassy from Tel Aviv is "a recognition of reality".
