Congress denies chances of going in alliance with JD(S) in Karnataka

"The Congress knows it is going to lose". Rahul Gandhi and chief minister Siddaramaiah led the Congress' bid to ensure that it defies anti-incumbency to retain power.

Outgoing chief minister P.C. Siddaramaiah rubbished Yeddyurappa's claim of winning 150 seats and said the Congress would bag at least 120 seats.

"We expect a possibility of forming the government, we have done well", Gowda told ANI here.

There was only one exit poll which predicted a close to full majority to BJP while rest of the seven clearly mentioned a hung assembly.

Kumar said re-election would take place in a polling station at Lottegollahalli in Hebbal constituency here since an electronic voting machine developed a glitch.

The exit polls put out by ABP-CSDS show that the BJP is likely to emerge as the single-largest party with 97-109 seats followed by Congress with 87-99 seats.

What is the difference between an exit poll and opinion poll?

A total of 2,654 candidates are in the fray and 4.96-crore electorate, including 2.44 crore women, are registered to cast their votes. At 6 feet you drown! Relax & enjoy your weekend. We are very confident that Congress will come back to power with a clear majority.

They had very few three-pointers to speak of; in other words, they were the opposite of what the NBA is supposed to be today. In fact, not only do they have deficiencies, but they do not even have the tools or resources to resolve those deficiencies.

The BJP and its allies are now in power in 22 of India's 29 states, but after Karnataka, three more state elections will fall due by the end of the year.

Most of the exit polls predicted that the BJP will emerge as the largest party. In 2005, former Prime Minister Gowda had expelled Siddaramaiah from JD (S) and it was then that Siddaramaiah joined Congress. The BJP has declared B S Yeddyurappa as its chief ministerial candidate.

Chief Minister Siddharamaiah indicated that the current elections would be the last he would fight and will bid adieu to electoral polity.

Speaking on completing five years in office, he said: "I took charge as CM on 13th May 2013". JD (S) will bag 22-30 seats.

But how exactly are each of these exit polls conducted? In a tweet on Sunday morning, the CM asked Congress members not to worry about the exit polls and asked them to treat it as mere entertainment. The BJP and JD-S had 40 seats each, Karnataka Jantha Paksha 6, Badavara Shramikara Raitra 4, Karnataka Makkala Paksha, Samajwadi Party, Sarvodaya Karnataka Paksha (one each) and Independents 9.

What do the Karnataka exit polls say? They are underestimating a lot about the JDS'.

No, in the past, there have been instances when exit polls have predicted the verdict of an election incorrectly.
