Giuliani resigns from law firm due to 'pressing demands' of Mueller probe

The former federal prosecutor, who Trump reported hired a mere three weeks ago, said he was leaving Greenberg Traurig permanently after recognizing that he could not work for the firm and represent Trump in Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation of Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

Giuliani himself is also quoted in the press release, noting, "On April 19th, I took a temporary leave of absence from my firm, Greenberg Traurig".

President Donald Trump's recently hired attorney continued, "This way, my sole concentration can be on this critically important matter for our country".

The firm's partners had reportedly been especially angry about Giuliani's remarks that payments like the one Michael Cohen made to Stormy Daniels were "common" at the firm, even without the knowledge of clients.

Rosenbaum works out of NY, now the nucleus of the firm that Miami lawyers Mel Greenberg, Bob Traurig and Larry Hoffman founded in 1967.

Originally, Giuliani and the firm believed he would not be working for Trump this long.

"That was money that was paid by his lawyer, the way I would do, out of his law firm funds", Giuliani said in a Fox News television interview.

Giuliani said the discussions about preparing the President were merely a precaution at this point and dismissed a suggestion that the discussions meant an interview with Mueller is happening.

Giuliani made explosive headlines after revealing that Trump reimbursed Cohen for paying Daniels, in order to stave off allegations that the payment was a campaign contribution.

"We can not speak for Mr. Giuliani with respect to what was intended by his remarks", a spokeswoman for the law firm said in a statement.

Since Giuliani joined Trump's legal team, he and the president have altered their story about the payment and its timing.

However, senior White House officials argue that the president approves of his renegade style and has no plans to shuffle his legal team in the coming days.
