Conte defends Chelsea record ahead of final league game

Huddersfield's players secured another season in the Premier League because "they always believed the impossible is possible", said boss David Wagner.

"We've worked for two years and we've worked very hard to try to build something, to create a base - I think we did this", said Conte, despite being hesitant to judge his own work. At the beginning, the target was to stay up. We felt we have played 37 games away from home.

"We need to finish on a high".

"It's only the Brighton game and they deserve the focus we can have". There are six top teams at the start of the season, ready to fight for a place in the Champions League.

"The present is now to finish the season in the best possible way with my players".

Yet, having inherited a Chelsea side that finished 10th after a turbulent season which had seen former manager Jose Mourinho sacked and Guus Hiddink working as an interim coach, he feels they are in a stronger position now than in 2016. They were eliminated in the last 16 (of the Champions League) against Paris St Germain. I'm very happy. I'm very happy for last season, I'm very happy for this season.

Newcastle have lost four games in a row and I don't see the Magpies returning to winning ways on Sunday, either.

Israel says it retaliated with airstrikes overnight, claiming they took out " nearly all " of Iran's military sites in Syria. Conricus said intelligence, logistics, storage and vehicles as well as the origin of the rockets were targeted.

It is a far cry from Conte's debut season at Chelsea, in which he exceeded expectations by bringing the Premier League trophy back to Stamford Bridge, but the Italian is adamant that both experiences have improved him as a manager.

The lead lasted just 13 minutes though as Marcos Alonso levelled when Cesar Azpilicueta's cross was drilled against the full-back and rebounded into the net.

Eden Hazard and Olivier Giroud started on the bench, as did Victor Moses and Tiemoue Bakayoko, who were involved in the only goal in the weekend's win over Liverpool.

And they got exactly what was needed when Depoitre latched onto a ball over the top after 50 minutes, got a touch ahead of the out rushing Caballereo, some Chelsea fans calling for a foul, and slotting home.

On Huddersfield avoiding the drop, Schindler said: "Everyone thought we were going to go down". They've also scored 18 fewer goals.

This, in turn, had an effect on the team as Chelsea's dominance in the first half was capped off by the lack of end product.
